The Broken Window (c.1945)

Oil on masonite, 12 x 9 inches. Signed lower right and titled verso. Provenance: Ganso Galleries, NY (label verso). Exhibited: Ganso Galleries, 1953. Woodstock's Magafan was posthumously honored with three memorial exhibitions in the 1950's and three retrospective exhibitions in the 1970's. Of the 1953 Ganso Galleries memorial exhibit, Howard Devree of the New York Times wrote: "At 36 she had already won much recognition. So much more lay just ahead." Works by Magafan are exceedingly rare.
