Oil on canvas, 30 x 40 inches. Signed Lower Right and titled verso. Exhibited: Whitney Museum, 1943, #25. Joseph De Martini's successful career began in the 1930's with the WPA Federal Art Project and the Macbeth Gallery. Over the next twenty-five years he exhibited in the most prestigious museum shows of the day. Many major museums acquired his work, including the Phillips Collection, the Metropolitan Museum of Art, the Museum of Modern Art, the Museum of Fine Art (Boston), the St. Louis Art Museum, the Walker Art Center, and the Addison Gallery of American Art.
